About the Artist

Over the past decade James Alan Edwards has been quietly creating a body of unique woks of art. Broadly published, a professor of art and an accomplished curator, Edwards utilizes the exacting methods of his former career as an illustrator to produce intensely personal representations of the natural world.

From the South Coast of New England to recollections from travels, employing both abstraction and realism; poetry and literalism, post-impressionism and neo-expressionism, I aim to conjure a sense of memory and ‘presence of being’ in nature - to create both an ‘outer’ and ‘inner’ experience for the beholder of my paintings. I am looking to capture something that presents the nature of a universe that is in a state of constant flux, while expressing a sense of authentic emotion.

Beyond these efforts, Edwards continues to extend his wide-ranging exploration of media and technique in oils, while seeking the influence of examples; from prehistory and folk art to the urban avant garde.
